Dear South Florida Spring Flingers,
Expectations for this year’s South Florida Spring Fling were extremely high. We felt that our strong base of teams from last year; coupled with the coinciding of the school systems’ spring break, would make this our breakout year. We have always known that the Easter weekend is a difficult one to host a tournament since Good Friday is not a national holiday and many parents have to work. Additionally, balancing the need for families to meet their religious obligations with their desire to participate in our event proved challenging, but we somehow found a way to satisfy most reasonable requests. Unfortunately, this year the economy has hit us all very hard and despite our expectations that having the tournament during spring break would be a benefit; it turns out to be a detriment due to many teams having players unavailable.
Unfortunately, despite having several divisions that could possibly be played, we don’t believe that we can provide the type of tournament experience that you have come to expect from us in a reduced format. Therefore, we have struggled to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s tournament. We know that many of you will be disappointed, some relieved, and probably some of you will be angry. Please understand that this decision was not reached lightly as we wanted to make sure you were taken care of despite the personal expense to us. As a result, we have made arrangements with the Miami Lakes Spring Shootout (4/18 & 4/19) to accept any and all Spring Fling teams into their tournament without any late fees being imposed. All of our teams that registered and paid will have their checks returned for a full refund.
